I had a total Christmas Vacation "Mele-Kalikimaka" moment the other morning at breakfast. Staring out the window, I pictured a sunny summer day, Brandon grilling while Harper plays with her water table. And me, with a death grip on a glass of wine, wearing jean shorts & a new baby snuggled into my chest. And for the record, I also had a tan. Then I flashed back to the present, pregnant, wearing five layers of clothes & eating bacon for breakfast while it is 40 degrees outside. Woof. I know, you totally saw this coming. Christmas is over, which means I am already looking forward to Spring. But this year, one of my New Year's resolutions is to take it easy this year & not wish away any of this precious time. To not rush around so much trying to get things done or make things happen. To make time to do more things on Harper's list than my own, more time to let her play & explore rather than just trying to squeeze it in between getting groceries & other obligations.

As a compulsive planner & list maker, I love New Years resolution time. I'm going to write mine, but this year, I'm going to make a point to wait until 2013 is over. We are going to soak up the last little bit of this amazing year, which most certainly includes finishing all the rest of the Christmas cookies. And we are going to track pine needles right into the New Year with us, because I'm sure as hell not taking that pretty tree down quite yet.
Don't get me wrong, I am ready for change. A fresh start, a new planner & some party horn blowers! But for now, before we all decide that it's time to eat healthy, exercise more & get organized, I'm going to call it a day. Or a year, for that matter. ;)
Happy New Year's Eve Eve!!

Jena DesjardinsDecember 30, 2013 at 9:30 PMI'm totally with you, Jess! I'm not quite ready to give this year up yet. 2013 is the year that I got engaged and my fiancee and I bought our first house. I just want to hold on to the magic a little bit longer. Here's to slowing down and enjoying the rest of the year properly! (Coincidentally, I'm in a bubble bath with a glass of wine... So cheers!) :)ReplyDelete

Jess TDecember 30, 2013 at 9:47 PMLove this, Jess! And I'm right there with you on s-l-o-w-i-n-g down...between my big girl job and running my etsy shop, sometimes my head is up my ass. I've had a talk with myself over the past few weeks and am determined to focus on what's important going into the new year and soak up every single moment I can....it even inspired me to start a weekly linkup on my blog, which I'm super excited about. I've got a great design person working on some fun things to go along with it and can't wait to roll it out! P.S. y'all are the cutest, per usual. Happy New Years Eve-Eve!
xoxo

Jessica BarnhartDecember 30, 2013 at 9:51 PMI think it is a wonderful idea to wait until the new year to make New Years resolutions. I have been procrastinating in making mine, however, I may adopt your idea and just go ahead and wait another day before doing so. I hope you and your family have a fabulous New Year's Eve and an even more fabulous new year. Cheers to 2014!ReplyDelete

AnonymousDecember 31, 2013 at 8:47 AMIsn't it funny how as soon as Christmas is over, we assume spring is right around the corner? I also found myself day dreaming about summer cookouts and warm weather. I'm pregnant with my first, due in June, and I'm also trying to get myself to enjoy this time being pregnant, cooped up in the house, with snow on the forecast. Ugh. I so badly want to wish away the days and have it be spring already, but I know I should take things slow and enjoy the time. I have to keep telling myself that when the baby comes, time will fly and I will miss being pregnant. So for now, I'm with you...let's enjoy this winter. Before we know it, we will be sipping cocktails by the pool! ReplyDelete
SandyDecember 31, 2013 at 8:48 AMI plan to work on that rushing around thing too! Happy New Year!ReplyDelete
JennDecember 31, 2013 at 9:38 AMGood for you, Jess! It gives me real anxiety, looking so forward to something (season, holiday, whatever) and rushing towards it. It's a mantra I tell myself frequently, "lady, slow down...." You get one life, you know? Don't rush it away! Happy New Year!ReplyDelete
