Embracing 2014.

Friday, January 3, 2014

My word of the year for 2014 is Embrace.  Updated: alphabet puzzle can be found here.

When I wrote out my list of New Year's resolutions, it seemed that all of them pointed in the direction of making life easier. When in reality, life for us is about to get quite a bit crazier.  With another baby on the way, we will once again be entering into new territory as parents, uncharted waters of navigating through this world as a family of four. And while I am more excited than ever, I am also a little bit terrified. I tend to set unrealistic expectations for myself & then dwell on things when they go wrong, which can be suffocating for me & unfair to my family. But this year, I am going to change that by embracing the unknown & the uncertainty. Embracing the chaos, the messes & the imperfections.
I am going to make 2014 count with more listening, learning & playing. Less multitasking. More peanut butter sandwich picnics on the kitchen floor. More days where we forget to change out of our pajamas. More rocking my babies to sleep instead of rushing through bedtime routines.  More balancing. Less juggling. Our babies will only be babies for so long, so my goal as a mom is to clear my busy mind & focus on living in the moment.
I am going to embrace today, because these are the days of our lives.

ReplyDeleteAnonymousJanuary 3, 2014 at 2:56 PMCute puzzle! Can I ask where you got it?

ReplyDeleteAnonymousJanuary 3, 2014 at 3:37 PMCan I ask where you bought that puzzle and what brand it is?

ReplyDeleteNoodleJanuary 3, 2014 at 3:52 PMWow. I could have written this myself. I can't believe how similar we are. It's unbelievable how emotionally mature you are. I always have this ideal in my head and feel like such a failure when it isn't achieved. Yet I am learning that this will be time I can never get back, regardless of how clean (or messy) my house is, etc. I am glad that you are recognizing this so early on. When your girls are grown up and off to college, you won't remember what you ate that one Saturday, but you will remember the sound of your little girls' laughter. Embrace it, for it goes by too quickly.

ReplyDeleteCharlotteJanuary 3, 2014 at 4:35 PMI hope this doesn't mean fewer posts from you? =(

My word is organised. This year my family and in have taken on a few commitments, including returning to university and trying for baby #2.

ReplyDeleteMaria Nicole LechnerJanuary 3, 2014 at 4:54 PMLove this post! I have a 5 month old and some days things just don't go as planned and we have to "break the routine". I find myself so antsy sometimes thinking that it will totally mess up our "flow" but then it always ends up being fine. I need to also just let go of all the expectations and go with the flow. I love when you post about these very real issues us moms face and it makes us feel not so alone :) you will do great as a family of four!

xoxo, Maria & baby Charlotte

ReplyDeletejessicaJanuary 3, 2014 at 6:52 PMI love this post! My favorite line was the more peanut butter sandwich picnics on the kitchen floor. I'm pretty sure we could all use more of those. I can completely relate to this, even though I don't have children yet, I find myself worrying about the silliest things and letting precious little everyday moments slip by without notice. Thanks for the encouragement! Hope your twenty fourteen is amazing and best wishes in your journey as a team of four!

ReplyDeleteJenniferJanuary 3, 2014 at 8:13 PMThank you for the inspiration! I think you would love a book I just read called 'The Gifts of Imperfection' by Brene Brown. This book changed my life!
