It's been a while since I've done a monthly update on Harper & she has changed so much over the last few weeks! Her vibrant & silly personality always puts a smile on my face. She is curious, independent & way smarter than we give her credit for. If she sees or hears something once, she remembers it forever, which can be good & bad! ;)Leggings \\ Sweatshirt \\ Skirt from Gap Outlet
Age: 22 Months (almost time to quit counting in months)
Clothes: Wearing mostly 18-24 & 2T. Loving taking some of her old dresses & putting them on her as tunics with cute leggings. She is wearing a size 4 or 5 shoe, depending on the fit. She is obsessed with wearing sweatshirts "fet-shirts" & socks, and surprise, she already loves picking out her own clothes to wear. She pulls random things out of her drawer & says "pretty!!!!"
This is one of my favorite pictures of her, I went in to wake her up from a nap one afternoon & remembered that she had put a pair of my socks over her pants & insisted in sleeping in them. These were the socks that I bought for my hospital bag & wore when she was born. I could not help but laugh & even tear up a bit when I saw her sleeping in them, with the heels halfway up her little legs. Not to mention the total cuteness of her holding her baby doll's hand.
Favorite Foods: Pasta, Apples, Cheese, Blueberries, Raspberries, Avocado, Goldfish & Toast.
In order to get her to eat more fruits & veggies, we have been making smoothies lately because she never turns down something she can drink from a straw. So far, she loves everything. She thinks it's all ice cream, which she calls "keem!" The cutest.
Favorite Words: Animals & animal sounds, love you, miss you, uh-oh, hi & hello, outside, upstairs & downstairs, and our favorite "mama's mess!" or "dada's mess!" any time she sees my clothes on the closet floor or Brandon's things all over the garage. We both crack up at it. She calls kisses "missys" & always says "awwww!" after she gives them.
Also, out of no where the other day, she pointed at something & said "Whoa! Look at that!" We had no idea she could put together a full sentence so we were both totally shocked.
Favorite Activities: Oh, where to begin! This little girl is enthusiastic about everything!! She loves to color "cuddy", play with headbands, chasing the cat, play in her teepee, read books, do puzzles, go for walks, swing, dance & finally, snuggle!! We rarely turn the TV on but it is fun to put on a movie every now & then or turn on an episode of Mickey, she is obsessed! She loves to do anything in the kitchen that is "helping", so playing in the tupperware or pots & pans, unloading the dishwasher (Brandon almost fired me as a mom when he realized that Harper puts away half the dishes on her own) & sitting on the counter to help cook.
Favorite Things: Right now she is still smitten with all of her Christmas presents (you can see them in this post), mostly loving her stackable crayons, stickers & pushing her toys around in her wagon (which has been one of her favorite toys for over a year now). She is so in love with her little baby doll & carries it everywhere, she dances with her & sleeps with her. One of many reasons why I know she is going to be such a good big sister.
Signature Moves: Dancing, singing & sending herself to time-out when she stands on the kitchen chairs. Giving hugs & kisses to everyone in the room, including her baby dolls & the cat (we are trying to teach her no kissing the cat, but she insists). Sneaking up behind us to tap us on the leg & say "run run run!" when she wants to get chased.
Mom's Proudest Moment: The time I took baby doll's clothes off her to wash them & it was TRAGIC. Harper's world came crashing down for a solid forty six minutes while they were in the dryer.
Also, I got in the bad habit of opening things in the grocery store for her, like a little box of goldfish or pretzels. Which she then not only spills or shotputs across the store if we go by cookies or balloons (because she would rather have that), but she also throws a fit when I take them away once we get in the car. A six minute drive home from the store is really the equivalent of an eternity when your child is screaming & crying. I got myself into this mess & it has spiraled out of control, so we are working our way through "operation snackless & tantrumless grocery shopping" these days.
Dad's Proudest Moment: Bouncing Harper into a complete backflip on the indoor (kid-safe) trampoline. She laughed her ass off, but mom didn't think it was so funny.
Other Milestones: She rarely sits in her high chair anymore, she likes to sit like a big kid at the table with us instead, I am trying to decide on a booster seat for her & have been looking at either the Bumbo seat that has straps or something to just give her a little more height like the Oxo. It will be so weird to not have a high chair at the table for a few short months! ;)
She counts to five and says please & thank you (and bless you after anyone sneezes).
Most importantly, she seems ready to start potty training! She asks to sit on the potty & always tells me when she has a dirty diaper (and wants it changed right away). I was going to wait until her birthday to start but we have decided to try it sooner, like within the next two weeks! Just waiting to pick out a potty for her & some big kid undies. I will do a separate post on that though when we are ready to get started! :)
I love this age so incredibly much. I never want to forget all of the cute things she says & does, she amazes me on a daily basis at what she is learning & always has me in tears laughing. I really can't put into words how much I love her, but I think that is all part of being a mama. Love beyond measure.

CharlotteJanuary 9, 2014 at 3:57 PMShe is a little gem. That first photo is just adorable. Our daughters sound like they have very similar personalities. I've started writing down her 'Matilda Moments', we've had some good ones to date. My 20 month old daughter has been saying "on't ee aughty" (don't be naughty). It started when we were trying to teach her that Santa won't bring her christmas presents if she's naughty. Little bit surprised at how much she understood what I was saying.
May have to give that smoothie thing a go. All my daughter will eat for dinner at the moment is vegemite toast. Everyone keeps telling me not to freak out because she is in full time childcare and they do amazing food for the kids, I think my daughter still holds to record in the nursery room eating 5 bowls for lunch one day. But her not eating much at home makes me feel like I've failed somewhere.

lorenJanuary 9, 2014 at 5:08 PMHarper is so cute! I can't believe how big she's getting! We got the BEMIS NextStep Round Closed Front Toilet Seat from Home Depot and LOVE it! It has the little seat connected to the top. Also I've found that gap kids xxs(2-3) underwear is smaller than baby gap underwear size 2-3. For us the baby gap ones practically fell off, while the gap kids ones are perfect. Good luck!! I love reading your blog thanks!! ReplyDeleteReplies

Cherry BlossomsJanuary 9, 2014 at 6:04 PMsuch cute photos esp the smoothie one and of her in your socks! Love it!We went with a pink baby bjorn potty and it was great. LOved the high back and so easy to clean. Too bad we are not closer otherwise I would just give you ours. Elle did great and then lost interest so I didn't push it. But, once she saw all of her friends going this fall at preschool she was back on board with potty training and she was trained early Nov. ashczarJanuary 9, 2014 at 6:21 PMMy little one that I nanny for was potty trained at 20 months and honestly it was waaaayyy easier than I thought. She picked out the potty she wanted and I just let her be naked one day and she had one accident and then every time after that she used the potty. Now at 28 months, she maybe has one accident every couple weeks, typically when she's outside playing and can't get inside fast enough.ReplyDeleteReplies

[darci @ the good life]January 9, 2014 at 8:51 PMI'm loving this update so much ---- Jackson is just 8 months older than her so we just went through so much of this (thinking smoothies are ice cream (or iced coffee!) and ruining him with snacks at the grocery store)! Harper girl is perfectly precious in every way.......... it's so much fun to watch them grown and LEARN. I'm completely amazed at how much these little minis are capable of remembering, doing and learning at such an early age! Anyway, I'm rambling. I'll end this with a fun potty training story --- (J is 95% potty trained... except for an accident here and there). Anyway, last night at dinner he yelled THREE times across the restaurant "NO poo-poo on, Thomas.... OKAY?" Sure did. We just got him Thomas the Train underwear (nerdy, but he loves them) and apparently my husband told him a few days ago that he can't poop in his underwear ever again because "we don't poo-poo on Thomas" (on his underwear). It was freaking hysterical.Cannot, cannot wait to hear Harper's fun potty training stories. Seriously funny!!!!!!!! I have a few tips having just bought "all the things" if you need any help! Happy weekend ahead, dear!ReplyDeleteReplies
And such a funny story!! I am anxious to see how our journey goes! I will be in touch! XODeleteReply
AmandaJanuary 9, 2014 at 9:24 PMMy daughter insisted on wearing underwear at 22 months, while I was 6 months preggo with her little sister! I had planned on waiting until after the baby arrived, but she didn't give me a choice. Believe it or not, we loosely followed the "3 day potty training method" and by day three, we were accident free. I really appreciated her being potty trained for a few months before the baby arrived because it allowed her to really get in her groove before her whole world changed!Best of luck!ReplyDeleteReplies

AnonymousJanuary 9, 2014 at 10:50 PMSo cute!! Absolute love the nap picture :-)I'd suggest the Oxo seat. Looks great/comfy.
My regret w my little one was not jumping on potty training when she asked... So if she's asking then encourage it :-). We also have a seat that just fit over the toilette (Prince Lionheart, i believe). Don't get a potty with a "squishy" seat. It may look comfy for your little one but from what I read it will retain some pee and may hold the smell too even after OCD cleaning it.
:-). karinReplyDelete
Lindsay StuthJanuary 9, 2014 at 10:57 PMWe have the Bumbo booster for my 18 month old and it works well, but Brodie is a messy eater (that's just a given at their age, right?!?) I thought I wanted something with straps because he is so wiggly, but the straps are hard to keep clean. Not impossible, but more difficult than no straps at all. Good luck! Looking forward to seeing what works with Harper and her potty training journey. ReplyDelete

NidhiJanuary 10, 2014 at 6:07 AMWat a sweet post... Their sweetness is just so difficult to describe in words... I have been noting down little things about my daughter & continue to do so now that she is 4 ! The limit of cuteness just increases with age...Yesterday I was chopping a big lot of veggies & she was helping me pluck out clean mint leaves...I just said, 'Oh gosh, this is too much work', to which she said 'yes mamma, lot of work'.... So I just told her that she can get down n play if she is tired...to which she replied...'no mamma, I'm not tired, I said too much work because you are tired, you go, i will do this' ...Oh my God!!!! I just wanted to absorb her cuteness like a gigantic sponge!!!!!! :)Harper is looking so very cute with that ponytail! :)ReplyDelete

Amanda BeachlerJanuary 10, 2014 at 11:03 AMJulia has become a picky eater too! It drives me bananas! Her favorite smoothie is:1 banana
1 cup blueberries
1 cup strawberries, mangoes or raspberries
3 Tbsp chai seeds
1-2 handfuls of spinach or kale
enough juice, water or milk to get desired consistency
It looks nasty but it is pretty good :)

EmilyJanuary 10, 2014 at 12:24 PMA couple of unsolicited suggestions! :)My Quotable Kid Journal - love it, still use it with my 6 year old. I've written down most all his cute quotes or ways of saying things since he was 2. Already so fun to look back on...

The Kaboost - LOVED this as an alternative to those bulky booster seats. We used it for several years (could still use it today really but gave it away a wee bit too soon). Easy to use and clean! Super cool product!!
http://www.kaboost.com/
Training Underwear - Okay - so when you start potty training consider using these thicker training underwear over the usual "big kid" panties you'll see (the ones with the characters, etc). They absorb more...the other underwear will just mean pee running down her legs! You can buy plastic bloomers to use over them (or these days I am sure there are ones with built in waterproof-ness). Yes they are messier to deal with when she poops in them but they are much less expensive than Pull Ups (glorified diapers). My thought was always - do I want to train my kid AGAIN - as in, I'll train them from diapers to pull-ups and then have to train them again in real underwear?? No thank you! I did use pull ups for naps and overnight...we didn't use more than 2 boxes before he was completely nap and night trained! Just a little food for thought...

I keep a journal for each of my girls- my oldest is 2 and my youngest is 2 months and I can NOT believe just how fast it goes by. Having my second reminds me of all the little things I somehow forget about my first, certain smells and sounds that I never thought I would forget. Makes me want to capture every moment and hold on. Alexis R. EdmondsJanuary 12, 2014 at 10:10 PMI am a nanny of a little girl, and about the same age, she didn't enjoy the grocery store anymore. So... I had her hold my list. Whenever we would find something, we would cross it off the list. She sometimes held the pen too. I would ask her what was on the list just to hear what she would say. :) Always worth a try. I potty trained her too... We went cold turkey on the diapers. She spent three days (at home) with no pants, diapers, or undies. The potty was in the living room, and she always used it. She peed on the floor maybe once. It sounds like Harper is ready to go! Just something I have noticed, Carter's has the best toddler underwear. They aren't baggie, and they have a nice elastic top that is comfy. Good luck! ReplyDelete

The parrot stage is totally the best! (Even when he repeats stuff like "shit" after his mama ... oops). Some of my faves are "fiffa fee" for "Christmas tree" and "Cheesis" (Jesus). Ha! P.S. Looooove the Candy Kirby leggings ;)ReplyDeleteAdd commentLoad more...
